WHERE IT ALL STARTED...

Design and construction have been connected in my mind for as long as I can remember.

When I was ten, I looked at a neglected shed in my family’s backyard and saw possibility. Using leftover materials and odds and ends from around the house, I transformed it into an elaborate clubhouse complete with a library, seating area, desk, and—somewhat ambitiously—a makeshift fireplace. It was my first lesson in taking an idea from concept to completion, although my understanding of permits, building codes, and fire safety has improved considerably since then.

That childhood project revealed something that has remained central to my career: I have never been interested in design as an isolated exercise. I am equally fascinated by how an idea is planned, coordinated, constructed, and ultimately experienced.

That curiosity led me to pursue education in product and fashion design, interior architecture, and construction. In 2012, I founded Jacqueline Ford Design + Build, Inc., combining creative direction with the technical and operational responsibilities of project delivery. As both principal designer and licensed contractor, I led multidisciplinary teams through design development, permitting, budgeting, construction, and completion.

Working across both sides of the process taught me to see projects holistically. A successful environment must be visually compelling, but it must also be buildable, functional, financially responsible, and responsive to the people who will use it.

​

Today, that same perspective continues to guide my work. Whether I am developing a design concept, coordinating architects and engineers, resolving a field condition, or leading a project team, I remain motivated by the opportunity to recognize potential and turn it into something meaningful.

The tools, scale, and responsibilities have changed since that backyard clubhouse—but the instinct to look at a space and imagine what it could become has never left me.
